Driver licencing

Tararua Community Youth Services (TCYS) offers driver licensing support to young people facing barriers — whether rural isolation, cost, or no access to a mentor or vehicle. We offer mentorship, and practical lessons with a professional instructor to help rangatahi and whanau to move through the graduated driver licence system.

TCYS works side by side with our youth — walking the journey with them, giving them tools, confidence and opportunity so they can navigate their world safely and with agency.

Being independent

Getting your driver licence is an important step towards independence and opportunity. In New Zealand, the graduated licensing system is designed to help you build skills and confidence so you can be a safe driver on the road. Having a full licence can also open doors to more employment and training options, and gives you the freedom to travel where and when you need

Easy & achievable with TCYS

  • Start with your Learner Licence by studying the NZ Road Code and passing the theory test.

  • Progress to your Restricted Licence (6 months after gaining your Learners Licence), where you’ll gain practical driving experience with some conditions.

  • Finally, when eligible, sit the Full Licence test once you’re ready to drive without restrictions.

We offer free tools and learning resources and our community mentors and instructors help you allow the way to make the journey easier. With clear steps and the right preparation, getting your licence is achievable for everyone.

If you don't need driving lessons or support and are ready to sit the practical test book via the NZTA website. When booking - Dannevirke is located under the Hawkes Bay area and then click Central Hawkes Bay and there you will find Dannevirke.  VTNZ testing officers work from the TCYS building.

Register today, as there can be a wait time. Click on the button below and someone from the TCYS Driver Licencing team will make contact with you.
